Lesson 54 — The Review That Changed My Mind
1. Before You Start
- 找出评论中的可核对特征、个人体验和过度概括;
- 用关系从句准确指出“哪条评论、哪个人、哪个地方”;
- 说明一条评论为什么相关,而不是只说“好评/差评”;
- 用官方资料交叉核对评论中可验证的部分;
2. Main Conversation
A review can start a check, not finish one
Aisha needs a quiet room for one client presentation during her flexible-workspace trial. She is comparing the Street Booth and the Courtyard Booth.
Part A — Reading two opposite experiences
Maya: Which booth were you planning to book?
Aisha: The Courtyard Booth. The review that worried me said the Street Booth was “impossible to use for calls.”
Maya: Who wrote it, and when did they use the room?
Aisha: A reviewer who held a call there at four thirty on a Friday. They heard delivery carts outside for twenty minutes.
Maya: That's a specific experience, but “impossible” sounds broader than the evidence.
Aisha: Another reviewer who used the same booth on Tuesday morning said it was quiet and the wired connection was stable.
Maya: So the two reviews may describe different times rather than a contradiction.
Aisha: The room where the first person had trouble faces the loading area. That part can be checked.
Maya: What does the official facilities page say?
Aisha: It confirms a wired connection and a delivery window from three to five on weekdays.
Part B — Using relevant details to decide
Maya: What about the Courtyard Booth?
Aisha: It is farther from the loading area, but it uses Wi-Fi only. One person called it perfectly reliable after a single Sunday visit.
Maya: That's one person's experience. It doesn't prove the connection is always reliable.
Aisha: Right. My presentation is on Tuesday at ten, which is outside the delivery window.
Maya: Which detail matters most for your call?
Aisha: The wired connection. I have to share a large visual file, and the call only lasts forty-five minutes.
Maya: Then the review that changed your mind didn't give you the answer; it helped you find the delivery schedule.
Aisha: Exactly. Based on the details that matter to me, the Street Booth is the better fit for Tuesday morning.
Maya: What needs to happen next?
Aisha: Here's what we agreed with the workspace: I own the booking, due by five today. It depends on the booth still being available, and the only open point is whether I need an adapter for the wired port.
After the booking
The workspace confirms the Street Booth for Tuesday from 9:45 to 10:45 and lists the adapter type in the confirmation. The booking is for this one presentation only; it does not change Aisha's trial or renewal settings.
Check the story
- Why does the first reviewer dislike the Street Booth?
- When did the second reviewer use it?
- Which part of the first review can Aisha verify?
- What is the difference between the two booths' connections?
- Why is Tuesday at ten relevant?
- What finally makes the Street Booth a better fit for Aisha?
Part B —
4. Read, Notice, Understand
Two reviews
Review A — Friday, 4:30 p.m.
I used the Street Booth for a client call. Delivery carts were moving outside for about twenty minutes, and I had to repeat myself twice. This room is impossible for professional calls.
Review B — Tuesday, 10:00 a.m.
The Street Booth was quiet during my forty-minute call. The wired connection stayed stable while I shared my screen. I would use it again in the morning.
Official facilities note
| Feature | Street Booth | Courtyard Booth |
|---|---|---|
| location | faces loading area | inner courtyard |
| connection | Wi-Fi + wired port | Wi-Fi only |
| weekday deliveries | 3:00—5:00 p.m. | not beside delivery route |
| booking length | up to 60 minutes | up to 60 minutes |
| Type | Example | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| verified feature | Street Booth has a wired port | 可直接用于比较 |
| specific experience | noisy at 4:30 on one Friday | 与相似时间任务相关,但不普遍化 |
| broad evaluation | impossible for professional calls | 需要拆成可观察原因 |
review → relevant clue → independent check → personal criterion → limited decision
5. What People Actually Say
1. The review that changed my mind was …
The review that changed my mind was the one that mentioned the delivery window.
2. The reviewer who …
The reviewer who visited on Friday heard delivery carts.
3. The place where …
The booth where she held the call faces the loading area.
4. That's a verified feature, not just an opinion.
The wired port appears on the official page. That's a verified feature, not just an opinion.
5. That's one person's experience.
The room was noisy for her, but that's one person's experience at one time.
6. Based on the details that matter to me, …
Based on the details that matter to me, the morning slot is the better fit.
Don't Say It That Way
|---|---|---|
| This review is true. | 评论常混合事实和体验 | The delivery time can be verified; the noise level was one person's experience. |
| The five-star review proves it's good. | 星级不说明相关标准 | The review mentions the feature I need. |
| Everyone says the room is noisy. | 两条评论不能代表所有人 | One reviewer found it noisy on Friday afternoon. |
| Review A is wrong because Review B is positive. | 时间和条件可能不同 | The reviews describe different times and conditions. |
6. Grammar in the Scene —
1. who识别人
The reviewer who used the booth on Friday heard delivery carts.
The review that changed my mind mentioned the delivery time.
The feature that matters most is the wired connection.
The room where she held the call faces the loading area.
The room that she used faces the loading area.
- The room that I booked has a wired port.
- The room I booked has a wired port.
The room that faces the loading area …
The room faces the loading area that …
The reviewer who used the room that faces the area where deliveries arrive …
One reviewer used the Street Booth on Friday afternoon. The booth faces the loading area.
用who / that / where完成;可省略时标出(optional):
- The reviewer ______ visited at four heard the deliveries.
- The detail ______ changed my mind was the wired port.
- The booth ______ she held the call faces the street.
- The room ______ I booked is available at ten.
- The person ______ wrote Review B used it on Tuesday.
- The feature ______ matters most is a stable connection.
7. Sound Natural —
The room was IMPOSSIBLE to use.
The connection was PERFECTLY reliable.
She CALLED it impossible / because she heard DELIVERY CARTS.
- That's a verified feature.
- That's one person's experience.
The review that changed my mind / mentioned the delivery window.
That's one person's experience / at one particular time.
Based on the details that matter to me, / the morning slot is the better fit.
8. Practice
- Review A describes:
- a. a weekday afternoon
- b. a Sunday morning
- The official page confirms:
- a. that the room is always noisy
- b. the delivery window and connection type
- Review B proves:
- a. the room is always quiet
- b. it was quiet during one Tuesday-morning call
- Aisha's most important criterion is:
- a. a wired connection
- b. a courtyard view
- The final booking:
- a. changes her membership
- b. is only for one presentation
B. Feature / Experience / Evaluation
分类:
- The booth has a wired port.
- I heard carts for twenty minutes.
- This room is impossible for work.
- The booking limit is sixty minutes.
- My screen share stayed stable.
- It is the best room in the building.
- A reviewer visited on Friday. She heard delivery carts.
- A review mentioned a wired port. It changed my mind.
- Aisha held her call in a booth. The booth faces the loading area.
- I booked a room. The room is available at ten.
- A feature matters most to me. It is the stable connection.
D. Lesson 53
Review A says the room is always noisy. Review B says it is always quiet. The official page shows deliveries only from three to five. Aisha's call is at ten.
must一次;might / could一次;can't一次;That doesn't prove …一次。
E. Lesson 52
Aisha books by 5:00. The workspace confirms the adapter by 5:30. The booking requires an available slot. Adapter type remains open.
Review C: I used the Courtyard Booth on Sunday. It was completely quiet, and the Wi-Fi worked for my entire call.
Review D: My video froze twice in the Courtyard Booth on Monday at noon. Support later said the building network had a temporary issue.
完成:
- 标出两条具体体验;
- 标出一条不能从材料得出的普遍结论;
- 写两个需要去官方资料核对的问题;
- 两条评论的时间和条件;
- 哪些是可核对事实;
- 哪些是个人体验;
9. Make It Yours
- 删除用户名和个人信息;
- 标出可核对特征;
- 标出具体体验;
- 标出过度概括;
- 写下你自己的三个标准;
Based on the details that matter to me, I would choose … for this situation. That doesn't mean it is the best option for everyone.
SOURCE → CONDITION → FEATURE / EXPERIENCE → MY CRITERION → DECISION

- The reviewer who visited on Friday heard delivery carts.
- The review that mentioned a wired port changed my mind.
- The booth where Aisha held her call faces the loading area.
- The room that I booked is available at ten.
- The feature that matters most to me is the stable connection.
The reviews must describe different conditions because the official page gives a limited delivery window. Review A might reflect a real afternoon problem, but it can't prove the room is always noisy. Review B describes one quiet visit, but that doesn't prove it is always quiet either.
Here's what we agreed: Aisha owns the booking, due by 5:00. The workspace owns the adapter confirmation, due by 5:30. The booking depends on an available slot. The only open point is the adapter type.
- C:Sunday、one call、quiet、Wi-Fi worked;
- D:Monday noon、two freezes、temporary building issue;
- 不能推出“Courtyard Booth一直可靠/一直不可靠”;
- The review that changed my mind mentioned the delivery window.
- The reviewer who used the room on Friday afternoon heard the carts.
