Lesson 55 — I Forgot to Attach It

1. Before You Start

  • forget / remember + to do说明某个必要动作做了或没做;
  • remember + doing说明对过去动作是否有记忆;
  • 区分stop to do / stop doingtry to do / try doing
  • 用可复现的步骤检查附件、权限和版本;

  • read-only PDF 只读PDF

2. Main Conversation

A sent message is not the same as a usable delivery

Aisha is preparing a preview for the client presentation she discussed in Lesson 54. The client replies that nothing usable arrived.

Part A — Finding three different errors

Aisha: I sent the preview ten minutes ago, but the client says there was no file. I forgot to attach the PDF.

Daniel: Did you remember to include the shared link?

Aisha: Yes, I remembered to paste it below my message. But the client says access is denied.

Daniel: Did you grant view access to the client's address?

Aisha: I don't remember changing the access settings. I opened the link before sending it, so I thought it worked.

Daniel: You were already signed in. Try opening it in a private window.

Aisha: I've tried that now. It asks me to sign in to my own workspace, so the client can't use it with the access I sent.

Daniel: Stop editing the slides for a minute to check the recipient address and permission level.

Aisha: Good point. I don't want to stop editing completely; I just need to pause and verify the delivery.

Daniel: Exactly. You're stopping to check one detail, not stopping the work for good.

Part B — Repairing the delivery

Aisha: The address is correct. I've granted that named account view access and tested the link while signed out.

Daniel: What about the attachment?

Aisha: I've attached a read-only PDF as a backup. I also remembered to rename the file “approved preview v3.”

Daniel: Your email subject still says “Draft 2.”

Aisha: You're right. I stopped using vague file names last month, but I forgot to update the subject line this time.

Daniel: Try adding one sentence that identifies the only current version.

Aisha: How about: “The attached PDF and the link below both contain approved preview version 3”?

Daniel: Clear. Also acknowledge the earlier mistakes rather than asking the client to search again.

Aisha: I'll write: “Sorry—the previous message had no attachment, and the link did not include your access. Both issues are fixed below.”

Daniel: Good. Send it once, then check the sent copy and wait for confirmation instead of creating another version.

After the repair

The client confirms that the PDF opens and that the link shows version 3. Aisha records the corrected message as the only current delivery and removes the two unusable links from her draft notes.

Check the story

  1. Why can the client not see a file in the first message?
  2. Why does the link appear to work for Aisha?
  3. What happens when Aisha opens it in a private window?
  4. What is the difference between stop to check and stop checking?
  5. Which third problem does Daniel find?
  6. How does the client confirm that the repair worked?

Part B —

4. Read, Notice, Understand

Sent-message record

Check First message Corrected message
attachment present no read-only PDF attached
link included yes yes
named recipient has access no yes
tested while signed out no yes
subject matches file version no yes
old delivery identified as replaced no yes

  1. Missing object: attachment was not included.
  2. Permission mismatch: sender can open it, recipient cannot.
  3. Version mismatch: subject and file label point to different drafts.

recipient → attachment → access → signed-out test → version label → sent copy

5. What People Actually Say

1. I forgot to attach …

I forgot to attach the PDF. Sorry about that.

2. I remembered to …, but …

I remembered to include the link, but I didn't grant access.

3. I don't remember doing …

I don't remember changing the permission, so I'll check the activity log.

4. Try opening it in …

Try opening it in a private window.

5. I stopped to check …

I stopped to check the sent copy before starting the next task.

6. I stopped doing …

I stopped using vague names like final-final-2.

Don't Say It That Way

I forgot attaching it. I forgot to attach it.
I remember to change it yesterday. I remember changing it yesterday. / I changed it yesterday.
Stop to send me messages. Stop sending me messages.
Try to open it in a private window. Try opening it in a private window.

6. Grammar in the Scene — `to do`与`doing`的意义

1. forget / remember + to do

  • I forgot to attach the file.
  • I remembered to include the link.

2. remember / forget + doing

  • I remember changing the access yesterday.
  • I don't remember changing it today.

3. stop to do

She stopped editing to check the address.

4. stop doing

She stopped using vague file names.

5. try to dotry doing

    I tried to open the damaged file, but it would not load.

    Try opening the link while signed out.

选择to dodoing

  1. I forgot ______ (attach) the file.
  2. I remember ______ (change) the label yesterday.
  3. Stop ______ (send) new links; one corrected link is enough.
  4. I stopped ______ (check) the sent copy before lunch.
  5. Try ______ (open) it while signed out.
  6. I tried ______ (recover) the damaged file, but it failed.
  7. Remember ______ (grant) access to the named recipient.
  8. I don't remember ______ (approve) this version.

7. Sound Natural —

I forgot to ATTACH the PDF.

I've ATTACHED it now / and granted VIEW ACCESS.

对比:

  • I remembered to include the LINK, / but I didn't grant ACCESS.
  • I don't remember CHANGING it, / so I'll check the LOG.

fact → impact → repair → verification

Sorry—the previous message / had no attachment.
I remembered to include the link, / but I didn't grant access.
Try opening it in a private window / while you're signed out.

8. Practice

  1. The first email contains the PDF.
  2. Aisha can open the link because she is signed in.
  3. The link also works in a private window.
  4. Daniel asks Aisha to stop editing permanently.
  5. The corrected subject and file label both identify version 3.
  6. The client confirms both access and version.

B. Meaning match

  1. remember to send
  2. remember sending
  3. stop to check
  4. stop checking
  5. try to open
  6. try opening

a. no longer perform the check
b. make an effort to open something difficult
c. have a memory of the past action
d. pause another activity in order to check
e. use this method as an experiment
f. do not fail to perform the future/necessary action

  1. attachment missing;
  2. recipient access denied;
  3. subject says v2, attached file says v3.

The sent copy shows no paperclip icon. The activity log shows that access was granted after the first message. The recipient says the corrected PDF opens.

使用:

  • must
  • might
  • can't
  • The strongest evidence is …
  • That doesn't prove …

E. Lesson 54

  1. A reviewer couldn't open one link. The reviewer used an old company account.
  2. A help page explains named-user access. The page changed my repair plan.
  3. A folder stores approved files. The corrected PDF is in that folder.
  4. One user found the process confusing. This is one person's experience.

至少使用who / that / where各一次。

  • no attachment;
  • wrong recipient permission;
  • old version in subject;
  • sender-only link;
  • two different “final” files;
  • corrected file arrives but no explanation.

  1. 描述可见问题;
  2. 不猜测对方懒惰或不认真;
  3. 提出一项修复;
  4. 说明如何验证;

  • 承认前一封邮件的具体错误;
  • 不要求收件者再次搜索;
  • 给出唯一附件/链接;
  • 说明访问范围和版本;
  • 请求一个简单确认;

9. Make It Yours

  1. recipient;
  2. attachment;
  3. access;
  4. signed-out or recipient-view test;
  5. version label;
  6. sent copy.

  • what you intended to do;
  • what you forgot or remembered to do;
  • what evidence showed the problem;
  • what you tried doing;
  • how you verified the repair.

remember / forget → stop → try → verify

10. Answer Key

Check the story

  1. Aisha forgot to attach the PDF.
  2. She is already signed in to her own workspace.
  3. It asks her to sign in, proving that the client does not have usable access.
  4. Stop to check means pausing another action in order to check; stop checking means no longer checking.
  5. The subject says “Draft 2,” while the file is approved preview version 3.
  6. The client says the PDF opens and the link shows version 3.

  4. False
  5. True
  6. True

7B

1–f, 2–c, 3–d, 4–a, 5–b, 6–e

  1. I forgot to attach the PDF. I've attached it now and checked the sent copy.
  2. I remembered to include the link, but I did not grant access. I've added the named recipient and tried opening it while signed out.
  3. The subject and attachment identify different versions. I stopped to check the approval log, renamed both as version 3 and sent one corrected message.

The sent copy shows that the first message did not include the attachment. The activity log shows that access was added later. The recipient might have tried the first link before that change. The strongest evidence is the sent copy and the activity log. The recipient's short reply doesn't prove why the first link failed, but it confirms the corrected PDF now opens.

  1. The reviewer who couldn't open the link used an old company account.
  2. The help page that explains named-user access changed my repair plan.
  3. The folder where approved files are stored contains the corrected PDF.
  4. The user who found the process confusing describes one person's experience.

Hello, Jordan. Sorry—the message I sent earlier had no attachment, and the shared link did not include your account. I have fixed both issues. The attached read-only PDF and the link below contain the same approved preview, version 3. The link grants view access only to the address you provided. I also tested it while signed out. Please ignore the earlier message and links. Could you reply with a quick confirmation that the PDF opens and that the page label says version 3? Thank you for flagging the problem.

  1. I forgot to attach the PDF.
  2. I remembered to include the link, but I forgot to give you view access.
  3. I don't remember changing this setting, so I'll check the record.
  4. Try opening it in a private window while signed out.
  5. I stopped editing to check the recipient address.
  6. I've stopped using vague file names like “final version 2.”
  7. Sorry—the previous message had no attachment, and the link did not include your access.

11. Self-check

  • 我能区分remember / forget + to doremember + doing
