本课目标

学完本课，你能够：

• 先说证据，再用must / might / can't表达不同把握程度；
• 区分页面事实、自己的推断和对他人意图的猜测；
• 指出哪条证据最强、哪条证据还不足以证明结论；
• 对可疑数字消息采用低风险核对步骤；
• 用60—90秒解释三条信息为何可信、可疑或不能成立。

本课边界

must在本课表示“根据现有证据，几乎只能这样解释”，不是义务；can't表示“与已确认事实不相容”，不是“我不喜欢”。一条奇怪的地址、拼写或语气可以引起怀疑，却不能单独证明发送者的身份和意图。遇到付款、账号或隐私信息时，本课只练习通过已经知道的官方入口核对，不提供网络安全、金融或法律判断。

One message, three levels of certainty

Aisha is halfway through her one-month flexible-workspace trial. A message says that her access has expired and asks her to restore it through a payment link.

Part A — Comparing the message with known facts

Aisha: I just got an email saying my trial has expired and I need to restore access today. That can't be right.

Maya: What makes you say that? It could be an automatic reminder.

Aisha: My official dashboard says the trial is active until Friday next week. It also says automatic renewal is off.

Maya: Then the claim that it has already expired can't match the account record.

Aisha: The sender address is odd too. Earlier messages used the workspace's official domain, but this one adds the word “pass” to the address.

Maya: That might be a warning sign, but the address alone doesn't prove who sent it.

Aisha: The email has a button marked “Restore Membership.” It says I have two hours to use it.

Maya: The deadline might be there to create pressure. Still, don't guess at the sender's intention.

Aisha: So the strongest evidence is the official dashboard, not the email design.

Maya: Right. The message must be using information that conflicts with your current account, but we still need an official check.

Part B — Verifying without using the message link

Aisha: I've opened the workspace app from my usual bookmark. There are no payment requests or access warnings.

Maya: Can you contact support inside the app?

Aisha: Yes. The help notice says staff never ask trial users to restore access through an email button.

Maya: In that case, this can't be a genuine renewal notice from the workspace system.

Aisha: It might be a misleading message, or it might have been sent to the wrong address. We can't tell which from this screen.

Maya: Exactly. State what the evidence supports and stop there.

Aisha: Here's what we agreed: I won't use the email link, I'll report the message through the app, and support owns the account check.

Maya: When is that due?

Aisha: I'll report it now. The final answer depends on the support ticket. The only open point is where the message came from.

Maya: Good. You can act safely without pretending you know more than the evidence shows.

After the check

Support replies through the app that the email did not come from its system. Aisha's trial remains active, automatic renewal remains off, and no payment is due. She deletes the message after saving the ticket number.

Fact, inference or unknown?

• Fact: The dashboard shows an active trial.
• Strong inference: The email can't be an accurate official renewal notice.
• Possible explanation: It might be misleading or misdirected.
• Unknown: Who created it and why.

数字信息判断不是“相信／不相信”二选一。先标出来源，再问：

1. 这条信息能否在独立渠道核对？
2. 它与哪些已确认事实一致或冲突？
3. 证据支持的是事实、强推断，还是一种可能？
4. 我是否正在猜测没有证据的意图？

1. That can't be right.

表示某说法与当前证据明显冲突。中性；后面应补理由，避免只凭直觉否定。

That can't be right—the official page shows a different date.

2. It must be …

根据多条一致证据作高把握推断。这里的must不表示“必须做”。

The page is locked and marked “preview.” It must be an internal version.

3. It might / could be …

给出尚未证实的一种解释。中性；不能把might包装成事实。

The message might have gone to the wrong person.

4. It can't be …

说明一个解释与已确认事实不相容。注意不是逻辑上永远不可能，而是在当前证据范围内不能成立。

It can't be the final file; the approval box is blank.

5. The strongest evidence is …

把讨论从感觉转回最可靠、最直接的依据。

The strongest evidence is the record in the official account.

6. That doesn't prove …

限制结论范围，防止从一个线索跳到过度确定的判断。

The unusual wording is suspicious, but that doesn't prove who wrote it.

Don't Say It That Way

容易说出的句子	问题	更自然、准确的表达
It must be fake because it looks strange.	单一印象不足以支持高把握结论	It looks unusual, but that doesn't prove where it came from.
Maybe it's definitely a scam.	maybe和definitely冲突	It might be misleading. Let's verify it.

1. must：证据高度支持

结构：

subject + must be / must have + noun, adjective or state

本课只主动练习对现在状态的推断：

• The account is active, so the email must be using outdated information.
• All three records match. This must be the current version.

must不是100%的数学证明。重要判断仍要说明依据。

2. might / may / could：一种可能

• It might be an old automatic message.
• The screenshot could be from a preview page.
• The address may belong to another service.

三者在本课都表示可能，不要求学习者给出精确概率。

3. can't：与证据不相容

• It can't be the approved page; it still says “draft.”
• The notice can't be current; its deadline was last month.

美式口语中也常听到couldn't be，但本课以can't be为主动骨架。

4. 推断前后都要有证据

较完整的表达顺序：

evidence → inference → limit

The dashboard shows no payment due, so this can't be an accurate renewal notice. It might be an old or misleading message, but we don't know its origin yet.

5. 不把过去推断提前学成新系统

must have sent / might have forgotten / can't have been会在后续课程深化。本课若在输入中遇到，只需理解，不要求自由产出。

快速练习

用must / might / can't完成：

1. The page is marked “internal preview.” It ______ be the public version.

• It MUST be the current one.
  强调证据高度一致。
• It MIGHT be the current one.
  保留其他解释。
• It CAN'T be the current one.
  强调与证据冲突。

长句中，把重音放在证据关键词和推断词上：

The DASHBOARD says Friday, so the email CAN'T be current.

不要为了显得肯定而把整句每个词都读重。推断句后半段加入限制时，语调通常放缓：

It might be an old message, / but we don't know yet.

影子跟读

按意群停顿：

The strongest evidence / is the official dashboard.
That can't be right / because the dates don't match.
It might be a mistake, / but that doesn't prove who made it.

A. 理解检查

判断正误：

1. Aisha's official dashboard says her trial has already ended.
2. Maya treats the different sender address as conclusive proof.
3. Aisha uses her normal app rather than the email button.
4. The in-app notice says payment restoration links are normal.
5. Before support replies, Aisha still does not know the message's origin.
6. Support confirms that automatic renewal remains off.

B. Fact / Strong inference / Possibility / Unknown

给每项分类：

1. The dashboard shows Friday next week.
2. The email can't be an accurate current notice.
3. It might have been sent to the wrong address.
4. The sender's intention.
5. No payment is due.
6. The unusual address proves the message is criminal.

C. 三条数字信息判断

每条用“证据—推断—限制”解释，录制60—90秒：

1. A file named FINAL has an empty approval field, while the project log lists v0.8 approved.
2. A delivery message says “today,” but the order page shows next Tuesday.
3. A review says a room is “always quiet,” but it describes one Sunday visit.

至少使用：

• one must inference;
• one might / could possibility;
• one can't inference;
• one That doesn't prove ….

D. Lesson 52近距离检索

不看第52课，完成行动记录：

A team agrees not to publish a draft. Nora checks the official page by 2:00. Luis reports the message through the account by 2:15. The result requires a support reply. The sender's origin remains unknown.

写出：

1. Here's what we agreed: …
2. 两个X owns …
3. 一个This is due by …
4. 一个This depends on …
5. 一个The only open point is …

E. 证据强度排序

从强到弱排序，并说明原因：

• a screenshot forwarded without a date;
• a current entry in the usual official account;
• a friend's memory of a similar message;
• a reply inside an authenticated support ticket;
• a page whose domain differs by one word.

F. 信息差互动

学习者A只看“可疑消息”，学习者B只看“官方账户记录”。双方不能直接展示材料，必须通过问题完成：

1. 找出两处冲突；
2. 给出一个强推断和两个可能解释；
3. 选择一个不使用可疑链接的核对步骤；
4. 记录仍未知的信息。

自学时，先遮住一栏口头提问，再换角色回答。

G. 实用写作：核对消息

写80—110词给官方支持：

• 说明收到什么；
• 提供消息时间和主张，不复制可疑链接；
• 说明账户中看到的相反证据；
• 请求确认该消息是否来自其系统；
• 说明自己尚未使用其中的按钮。

H. 中译英情境表达

1. 这不可能是最终版；批准栏还是空的。
2. 它可能只是旧提醒，但我们还不能确定。
3. 最有力的证据是账户里的当前记录。
4. 地址看起来奇怪，但这不能证明是谁发的。
5. 我们约定的是：我不点邮件里的链接，客服负责核对账户。
6. 唯一未决的问题是这条消息来自哪里。

真实数字信息检查

选择一条不涉及敏感个人数据的真实通知、日程变更或文件状态：

1. 写下它的原始主张；
2. 找到一个独立、已知的来源；
3. 分开记录事实、推断、可能和未知；
4. 用60秒解释你会采取的下一步。

现实检查

不要在作业中粘贴账号、付款信息、个人地址、验证码或私密链接。练习目标是语言和证据范围，不是把真实敏感数据交给他人判断。

两天后的复测

只看以下四个标签，重新讲一个新例子：
