A desk away from home

Aisha meets Maya after work. A shared design studio has offered Aisha a day pass, but she has not agreed to rent a desk.

Part A — The change under consideration

Maya: You sounded thoughtful in your message. What's going on?

Aisha: I'm thinking of making a change to the way I work. I've been considering joining a shared studio two days a week.

Maya: I thought you liked working from home.

Aisha: I do. I want to keep my home workspace, but lately I've found it hard to stop working in the evening. A separate desk might help me leave work at work.

Maya: So you're saying that you don't want to move your whole business. You just want some distance from it a couple of days a week.

Aisha: Exactly. I also miss talking to other designers. At home, I sometimes spend an hour trying to solve something that another person might explain in five minutes.

Maya: What is making you hesitate?

Aisha: The monthly cost and the commute. I can't afford to pay for a desk that I rarely use, and I want to avoid adding travel on my busiest days.

Part B — Comparing two workable options

Maya: What are the actual choices?

Aisha: Option one is a flexible monthly desk. I could choose any two days, use the meeting rooms, and keep working from home the rest of the week. Option two is to buy day passes only when I need a quiet place.

Maya: Wait, how would the day passes work? Do you have to book far ahead?

Aisha: Usually one day ahead. They cost more per visit, but there is no monthly commitment.

Maya: And which option do you prefer?

Aisha: I'd rather test the space before signing up. I haven't decided whether to buy one day pass or accept their free trial day first.

Maya: The free day sounds like useful evidence, not a commitment.

Aisha: That's how I see it. I plan to visit on Thursday, ask about busy hours, and try working there for an afternoon. Then I'll compare the real experience with the cost.

不看上一课，用恰当词块回应。

1. Aisha jumps from “home is difficult” to “a monthly desk.” Ask how that option would solve the problem.
2. Invite her to explain the next step after Thursday's visit.
3. Restate that she is testing the space, not renting it yet.
4. Start a careful summary of her plan.
5. After summarizing, invite her to add anything you omitted.

E. 两人互动：比较一个选择

伙伴A从 workplace / schedule / course / transport 中选一项改变，说明两个选项和一个限制。伙伴B必须：

• 追问一项缺失信息；
• 用 So, you're saying that … 复述；
• 指出还需要哪项证据；
• 不替A作决定。

没有伙伴时，先录A版本，隔10分钟只听一次，再录B的追问与复述。

F. 中译英情境表达

1. 我在考虑改变我的工作安排。

录2—3分钟，比较一个你真实可能做出的低风险改变。结构为：

1. current situation；
2. change under consideration；
3. option A / option B；
4. benefit / cost / uncertainty；
5. next evidence；
6. what is not decided yet。

至少使用本课6个新词块中的4个。

不用原表，再录90秒。比较两次录音：第二次是否仍保留“考虑”和“决定”的边界，是否减少逐字翻译。
