Lesson 30 — You Could've Told Me

本课只有一个现实任务：表达对具体事件的不满，承认自己应当做得不同，并通过道歉、纠正和新的选择修复关系。

1. Before You Start

本课目标

学完本课，你能够：

  • 说明对方本可以提前提供什么信息；
  • 使用有限的 should've / could've 修复词块；
  • 承认具体责任，不用 but 取消道歉；
  • 区分意图和实际影响；
  • 提出可验证的纠正行动，让对方重新选择。

语言边界

本课不系统教授情态完成式，也不要求自由讨论所有过去可能性。只主动掌握少量高频修复词块。道歉不要求对方立刻原谅；严重伤害或安全问题不能靠一句套语解决。

A tentative answer became a promise

Lena calls Daniel after he receives a thank-you message from Owen.

Part A — Naming the problem

Daniel: Lena, you could've told me before you said I would help Owen move the display panels on Saturday.

Lena: You're right. I should've checked with you. I saw your message saying, “I should be free,” and I treated it as a yes.

Daniel: I meant that Saturday looked possible, not that I had agreed. Owen's message made it sound final.

Lena: I didn't mean to put you in an awkward position, but I did. That was my mistake.

Daniel: Thank you for saying that. I'm frustrated because I had already promised Maya I would meet her that morning.

Part B — Correction and choice

Lena: I'm sorry I committed your time without asking. How can I make this right?

Daniel: Please tell Owen I hadn't confirmed and that I'm not available Saturday morning.

Lena: I'll call him now, and I'll find another volunteer. I won't ask you to explain my mistake.

Daniel: Good. I could help for one hour Sunday afternoon, but please check with me before you offer that.

Lena: Absolutely. I'll send you the exact time first. Nothing is confirmed until you reply.

Daniel: That works. The main thing is that I get to confirm my own availability.

Lena corrects the message. Owen finds another Saturday volunteer. Daniel later confirms one hour on Sunday after receiving the time, so no unapproved commitment remains.

这里的 but I did 承认影响。不要说 I'm sorry, but I was only trying to help，因为它容易把道歉重新变成自我辩护。

很抱歉我……。后接自己实际做过的行为，而不是 you felt upset。

6. How can I make this right?

我可以怎样纠正这件事？邀请对方说明需要；不保证所有后果都能立刻消除。

7. I meant …, not …

我的意思是……，不是……。澄清原意和被误解的结论。

8. Please correct the message.

请更正那条消息。提出可验证的修复动作。

9. Nothing is confirmed until …

在……之前都不算确认。建立新的清楚边界。

10. I get to confirm my own availability.

我自己的时间由我确认。说明核心需要，不等于拒绝所有帮助。

1. could've = could have

2. should've = should have

这里承认过去合理但没有完成的步骤。

3. 否定形式只作理解

I shouldn't have confirmed it without asking.

第一册不要求围绕所有人称和过去情境自由变形。

A. 理解检查

  1. Daniel had clearly confirmed Saturday morning.
  2. Lena treated a tentative message as a final yes.
  3. Daniel has no other Saturday commitment.
  4. Lena asks Daniel to explain her mistake to Owen.
  5. Another Saturday volunteer is found.
  6. Daniel confirms Sunday only after receiving the exact time.

B. 修复的五步

将句子标为 impact / responsibility / apology / correction / boundary：

  1. I received a final booking I hadn't approved.
  2. I should've checked with you.
  3. I'm sorry I used your name without asking.
  4. I'll correct the group message now.
  5. Nothing is confirmed until everyone replies.

C. 去掉假道歉

改写：

  1. I'm sorry, but you misunderstood me.
  2. I'm sorry you were annoyed.
  3. I only did it because nobody else would help.

每句至少加入一项具体责任或纠正行动。

D. 未知修复回应

伙伴A抽取事件卡：shared a tentative time / borrowed an item / changed a group message / invited someone on another person's behalf。伙伴B随机提出一种影响。A不能争论感受，必须承认、道歉、询问并纠正。

E. Lesson 28间隔检索（二）

  1. State the exact deadline for returning borrowed equipment.
  2. Promise to send a short written summary after the discussion.

F. 实用写作

写75—95词修复消息：说明收到的反馈、承认漏掉的步骤、为具体行为道歉、说明立即纠正什么，并让对方重新确认选择。

现实任务

选择一个低风险错误：替别人确认时间、转发未确认信息、借用后未及时告知或改动共享计划。用90—150秒完成“影响—责任—道歉—询问—纠正—新边界”。

独立录音

只看 impact / should've / sorry / correct / choice / boundary，录75—105秒。至少自然使用本课6项新表达中的5项。

三天后的复习

更换事件和对方需要后重新完成。若道歉仍包含 but you…，重做第3、4、7部分。
